T&O is a surgical specialty that works on trauma to the musculoskeletal system, such as broken, fractured or dislocated bones and soft tissue injuries. Climate changes and pollution levels have effects on your musculoskeletal health. Extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, can exacerbate joint pain and stiffness in individuals with arthritis or other joint-related conditions. Occupational exposure to certain chemicals and pollutants can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, such as tendonitis and repetitive strain injuries. Contaminated water sources may pose risks to bone health through exposure to heavy metals and other harmful substances. Climate disasters have become five times more frequent over the last 50 years. Global warming is contributing to the increased severity of natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires, which often cause widespread morbidity and mortality. Approximately 7 million surgical procedures are performed annually for natural disaster-related injuries.
